Mother's Day

Oh how I look forward to this holiday! A day all about me. I had big hopes and dreams for this day! I was going to be waited on hand and foot by my adoring children with breakfast in bed. My husband would gush about all things wonderful and tell me how lost he would be without me. I guess I should have mentioned this to them because that didn't happen. Not only did it not happen but pretty much the exact opposite happened. I got out of bed and made my own cinnamon rolls while screaming to my boys about how late for church we were going to be. (I ended up leaving Noah right in the bed with Charles). On my way out of the door Charles yelled for me to bring home something to eat. About this time I am thinking "yeah not so much-loser" I am nothing if not honest here on this blog.
Wil made it to Sunday school and God bless his teacher because she remembered it was Mother's Day. Wil came in with a card for me-because after all it was MOTHER'S DAY! My heart was overjoyed with the acknowledgement... until I read it. The outside was beautiful

Mother's
Day
"Her children arise and call her blessed."
Proverbs 31:28 a

Doesn't it just make your heart beat a little faster? Yeah well the teacher printed that part! The printed inside part was lovely too!
"Listen, my son and daughter to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching"
Proverbs 1:8

And then printed
                                                              Dear Mom,
Thank you for teaching me

AND THEN WIL'S addition to this card...

not to beat the crap out of Noah, how to eat and how to talk.

Now I will be the first to admit I am not the World's Greatest Mother but really....that is what he is thankful for? What about the whole potty training ordeal? Or how about reading...wasn't that some good teaching? How about guiding him so gently towards the cross and showing him how much Jesus loves him? How about the time I taught him to ride his bike or when he learned to swim? Let's face it I didn't teach the boy to eat he knows how to do that all by himself! Talking came with the 5,463 hours of speech therapy I drug him to. So my legacy came down to the fact that I taught him how not to "beat the crap out of Noah".

I guess we can mark it down as a lesson in self control.

Just wait until Father's Day.

  1. It sounds like "sweet justice" is right around the corner is June!! Can't say I blame you at this point. I will have to talk with Charles and give him some "hints" on how to celebrate Mother's Day. I happened to miss my husband so much yesterday morning that people kept asking me what was wrong. He was all about making me feel special, more so on Mothers Day than any other. See even though I complained about him a lot before and after his death, he did have a few good traits.

  2. DEAR CHARLES, ON OUR RIDE TO CHARLESTON LAST WEEK I WAS TELLING YOU SOMETHING FROM RACHEL'S BLOG. YOUR COMMENT AND I QUOTE," OH, I NEVER READ THAT, SHE NEVER WRITES ANYTHING ABOUT ME...IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT HER!!!"
WELL, BROTHER...SHE WROTE SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THIS TIME (READY OR NOT) AND I DIDN'T EVEN TELL HER WHAT YOU SAID. YOU MUST OBEY WHAT IS SAID IN THE BIBLE CHILDREN, LISTEN TO YOUR FATHER'S INSTRUCTION AND TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO RAISE THEIR MOTHER UP AND CALL HER BLESSED! AND THE SAME GOES FOR RACHEL..YOU GUYS ARE IN THIS EQUAL SMEQUAL!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU ALL, BUT THERE NEEDS TO BE A NEW DAY COMIN'
GABE IS GOING TO TEACH YOU HIS LITTLE BIBLE VERSE

  4. Hey, they will appreciate you one day...their wives will make sure of that. I have 5 brothers and if it wasn't for THEIR wives my poor mother would all but be forgotten. But listen to this, one of my bros bought my mom a gift for mothers day and he got it at a YARD SALE. How did she know this? He told her (He's not married anymore.). It wouldn't have been so bad if the object was like an antique or something, but it was just some kind of intercom. Hmm...I see an Indian Giver in the near future.

  5. Your day WILL come... Of course, they will all be married and out of the house, but it will come, lol.

I had to make the cinnamon rolls Sunday morning too... Some things will never change.
